HISTORY AND COVERAGE
The Journal of Vertebrate Paleontology (or JVP) was founded in 1980 at the University of Oklahoma by Dr. Jiri Zidek, with financial support from the University of Oklahoma Presidential Associates Fund; publication of the JVP was continued in 1984 by the Society of Vertebrate Paleontology. It publishes original contributions on all aspects of the subject, including vertebrate origins, evolution, functional morphology, taxonomy, phylogeny, biostratigraphy, paleoecology, taphonomy, paleobiogeography, and paleoanthropology.
IMPACT FACTORS
The Journal is included in the ISI Science Citation Index. In the 2021 Journal Citation Report® the Journal had an Impact Factor of 2.558, ranking it 9th out of 53 journals in the Paleontology category at ISI.
INFORMATION FOR AUTHORS
The Journal of Vertebrate Paleontology (JVP) is the bimonthly journal of the Society of Vertebrate Paleontology. It is devoted to studies on the evolution, functional morphology, taxonomy, phylogeny, biostratigraphy, paleoecology and paleobiogeography of fossil vertebrates. JVP publishes high quality peer-reviewed original articles, and occasional reviews and interdisciplinary papers. It is international in scope and emphasizes both specimen- and field-based based research and the use of high-quality illustrations. Priority is given to articles dealing with topics of broad interest to the entire vertebrate paleontology community and to high-impact specialist studies. Articles dealing with narrower topics, including notes on taxonomic name changes (unless these deal with errors published in in JVP), preliminary site reports, and documentation of new specimens of well-known taxa, are afforded lower priority.

ATTENTION: NEW EDITORIAL POLICY (as of June 2021)
Due to the ethical issues surrounding the so-called ‘Burmese amber’ from the Cretaceous of northern Myanmar and the recent military coup in the country, the Society of Vertebrate Paleontology (SVP) is calling a moratorium conducting research on fossils in Myanmar amber acquired after the coup (click HERE to see the letter). SVP has also updated its guidelines on Myanmar amber acquired prior to the coup which highlights the conditions under which publications on these materials may be accepted for review (click HERE to see the guidelines). Effective immediately, SVP also places a moratorium on publication in its Journal of Vertebrate Paleontology (JVP) of any fossil specimens purchased from sources in Myanmar after February 2021 at least until the situation in the country stabilizes. In addition, authors who wish to publish on fossils in amber from Myanmar are expected to supply the JVP Senior Editors with adequate proof to satisfy any and all editorial concerns regarding the provenance of the fossil specimens, in the form of certification or other demonstrable evidence as stated in the above mentioned guidelines, that they were acquired before the date both legally and ethically. Any manuscript submitted that fails to meet these criteria will not receive further consideration by JVP.

THE SVP MEMOIR SERIES
A Memoir provides the opportunity for publishing single major works that are too lengthy to be considered for Journal of Vertebrate Paleontology (JVP) articles, as well as collections of shorter papers with a single theme (e.g., symposium proceedings) that might appropriately be published in a single volume. The Memoir is published and mailed with an issue of the JVP.
Each year the Society of Vertebrate Paleontology (Society) will support publication of one Memoir that does not carry any page charges to the author for a total of 200 printed pages. Page charges would be applicable beyond the initial 200 printed pages. Inquiries and proposals for Memoirs should be sent to the Memoir Editor. Additional Memoirs may also be published as supplements to the same volume of the Journal of Vertebrate Paleontology (JVP), but authors will be responsible for the full cost of publication and the added mailing cost. Costs vary depending on the length of the Memoir, the number of figures, and the amount of color requested. Proposals for these additional Memoirs should be sent directly to the Memoir Editor and Senior Editors for evaluation and discussion of costs. The deadline for the 2022 series is February 26, 2021.
PALAEONTOLOGIA ELECTRONICA
The SVP is a sponsor of Palaeontologia Electronica, an open-access peer-reviewed paleontological journal, published online twice yearly. In addition to scientific research articles, PE includes reviews of scientific, popular and children's books, website annotations and teaching resources in paleontology.
